Residential Services
Wayne County residents with developmental disabilities have several residential options from which to choose. All are offered with the philosophy of providing the least restrictive, most appropriate homelike environment, which is financially available. Individuals can choose to live independently in their own homes or with family, using supports provided through the Wayne County Board of Developmental Disabilities. This array of services emphasizes individual choice and decision-making.
Supported living services can be provided for as long as twenty-four hours a day to an individual with developmental disabilities through any public or private resources, including moneys from the individual that enhance the individual’s reputation in community life and advance the individual’s quality of life.
Medicaid Home and Community Based Waivers (HBCS) provide funds, which can be used for transportation, personal care, habilitative training, adaptive equipment and therapy services for mentally retarded/developmentally disabled consumers.
There are two HBCS waivers for Developmental Disabilities consumers. The Individual Options Waiver (IO) service can be provided in the consumer’s home, wherever it may be. The Level 1 Waiver provides resources to families helping them to maintain their child/adult in the family home. The Ohio Department of Developmental Disabilities (ODDD) is responsible for determining eligibility for each consumer’s enrollment in the waiver programs. Waivers require an annual renewal process for continued waiver services. Each individual enrolled must meet Medicaid eligibility requirements. The ODDD Capitol Housing Program offers an additional housing option by providing funds to Wayne County Board of Developmental Disabilities for use in procuring homes for the WCBDD individual.
